I went to the museums at Ft. Leonard Wood yesterday and the Engineer Museum has a very small ADM display. This was the plaque, I let them know the SADM didn't weigh 163 lbs!

I am fortunate to have found this site and information, and I was more than fortunate to have been Plt Ldr of the 123rd ADM Plt and helped move it from Ft Bliss to Ft Belvoir in 1966. The 123rd had a group of very competent members with whom I wish I had maintained contact. My last assignment was CO of the 600th Engineer Company ADM.

I was 3rd Platoon Leader in Hanau from Oct 1975 to April 1997. SFC Fish (don't remember first name) and Tommy Maines were my Platoon Sergeants. I attended the first reunion we held in Savannah and had a great time. Put in a full 30 and then spent nearly 12 years as the Director of Public Works at Fort Bragg before retiring a second time in Jan 2016.

I've battled prostate cancer for the last 5 years. I had the prostate removed in 2012, but the cancer came back in 2015, just finished almost 2 years of hormone treatments (no fun) and am cancer free once again. If anyone is diagnosed with the cancer feel free to contact me

Chuck Badger Saturday, December 31, 2016 09:10 PM
Also think I was Plt. Sgt. when U were there after Maines. We worked with the Brits. then I went to 4th Plt for another NSI after the 3rd. I departed Hanau in 1982 after 1 year as 1SG of the 567th. Retired in 1988 (25 years) Good old days!!

Norm Stone Sunday, January 1, 2017 10:38 AM

My wife stumbled on to this site last night and we spent the next couple of hours looking through the list of names to see who we remembered.

You may not remember, but on January 12th, it will be the 41st anniversary of our arrival in Germany. You were the first to greet us as you came to pick us up at Rhine-Main AFB. While that was nearly 41 years ago, I still remember it like it was yesterday. One of the first things you told us was, "Your tour has been extended 3 months to 42 months." Yikes!!

I'm sorry for your recent health issues, and glad that you're doing better.

We're doing fine and are settled in Searcy, Arkansas where I'm on the faculty at Harding University in the College of Business Administration. My wife and I have two children and 7 grandchildren - ages 3 to 12. We are, indeed, very blessed.

I hope you continue to do well. God Bless,

Remember both of you! I just dug out the "Ballad of the 567th" and the skit we did when MAJ Magnell left. I'm Facebook friends with Kent Brown and talk with Norm Andersson

I think I was in 2nd Plt in 1977-79 with SFC Brown as Plt Sgt. Sorry to hear about the Cancer but glad you beat it back. SSG Bartz was my team chief and Old man Meyers was senior tech.

Lt/Col Bean: Been a long time since the Savannah reunion. Special Barrier Company 100 and Hauptmann Ox is a long time ago. We did have good times in Minden. Sorry to hear of the cancer. I survived a heart attack with some replumbing done. Started jumping out of airplanes at 63 and enjoy every jump. Between Submarines and jumping I have had a great life. Good to now you are still out there.

WOW, It has been a few years since I've been here on Peter's site! I'll be back eventually! I'm still with the 5th Signal Command, 2nd Signal Brigade, 102nd Signal Battalion which inherited the former 69th Signal Battalion in 2015 in Grafenwoehr, whom I worked for previously. I also worked in the 567th, 7th Platoon in Hanau from SEP 76 to SEP 79.

I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from the the 567th and their families! God Bless you all and keep you save!

Just since the election I've had customers who were in Nazi slave-labor camps, a ex-Soviet soldier who fought in the war, elderly American veterans from both the Vietnam-era and the early days of the Cold War in Germany, and others who didn't actually identify themselves.

Whatever Trump's plans are, his constituents are already getting busy. I've been fortunate enough to speak with persons who are quite rare now, and who I believe probably won't be here too many more years. Their stories and memories are important now, we're entering a confusing time.

Just like your memories. I still think you had a vantage point on the Cold War that few other Americans could access. Live long, some day your story'll be needed.

Elmer Thursday, November 24, 2016 08:24 AM
I want to give Trump the benefit of the doubt, but so far I've only been impressed by his election win, and nothing else.
On your other thoughts, I agree that we had a rare, unique opportunity in our Cold War experience, but I wish I had had a more mature lens back then to observe it with! Now that I am forty years older and actually looking through that lens; I'm convinced that humanity is incapable of saving itself from its own destruction! Just one case in point is, Angela Merkel's migration policies. She is destroying Germany now. Our time here during the cold war is partially wasted now. what a shame! So, we go on trying to live our lives as best we can and helping others along the way as best we can, until we die. I have hope, but not so much anymore!

Curt Friday, November 25, 2016 05:17 PM

Right, I agree. Don't want to go too far this way as I don't want to get the post deleted, but you're right. Lax immigration policies have harmed nations in the past.

Hard to say, but for many the Army was their baby sitter. We've all aged, but even at our early age I think everyone noticed that 12E was different. It might not have seemed like it at the time, but people listened to you.

Jim Cauthron Thursday, February 16, 2017 04:22 PM
You can keep on hoping!

Curt Tuesday, February 28, 2017 07:04 PM
No, "hope" left when Obama got elected. Together that was 16 years of deception, his and Clinton's. With all the hype of Clinton and Rhodes Scholars, he was the only president to undergo impeachment proceedings to that extent.

I was in ADM when Nixon resigned, and that was the key word: "resigned." Rather than drag the entire nation through his humiliation, he left. But Clinton the Rhodes Scholar wouldn't do that, he took the whole nation down with him.

No, Trump is what the world is designed for no. No more militarism, no more draft, just the new male role model figure that we've had created for us. It's all about being a businessman, and that's one thing they can't deny from Trump: he's a businessman. The obvious rebuttal to that is no, the world demands female leaders. OK, but Clinton never divorced her impeached husband and putting her in the White House would only have put him back there, too. We've been incredibly dumbed down, but not that much.

On a lighter note, I remember when men would put on their mother's clothes to wear to the draft board to get out of going to Vietnam. Now they go to the recruiters dressed like that they get appointments to West Point. Blame it on Vietnam? Was French Indochina ever named American Indochina?

Not on any map I ever saw. Maybe Clinton's friends are cartographers.

Curt Saturday, March 25, 2017 09:05 PM
"To save you is no benefit, to destroy you is no loss;" "No gain in keeping, no loss in weeding out;" "I do not reject responsibility - our movement made mistakes, like every other movement in the world. But there was another aspect that was outside our control-the enemy's activities against us;" and maybe the best: "I want you to know that everything I did, I did for my country."

Quotes from Pol Pot. Go get 'em, Donald, you got precedents!

Put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
And go out to the car and change the tire
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans

Come on baby you can fill my pipe and then go fetch my slippers.
And boil me up another pot of tea,
Then put another log on the fire babe
And come and tell me why you're leaving me.

Now don't I let you wash the car on Sunday
And don't I warn you when you're gettin' fat.
Ain't I a gonna take you fishin' with me someday,
Well, a man can't love a woman more than that!

Ain't I always nice to your kid sister
Don't I take her driving every night.
So sit here at my feet cause I like you when you're sweet,
And you know it ain't feminine to fight.

So put another log on the fire,
And come and tell me why you're leaving me.
