33 years ago today. I remember after morning formation on Francois, picking up a Stars & Stripes newspaper and reading about Elvis Presley's death. Dang! Has it really been that long?
Elmer:
Jesus Larry,
Did you have to do that? Seems almost like testerday. He looked bad on stage before he died too!

Saw this on my recent travels. Is this what happened to the Schulthiess Gang, or did it drink itself into oblivion?
G. Goudreau:
Oy! Can't you see what's going on here, Elmer? The name of that business is an obvious, shameful attempt by a group of scurrilous, non-german imagrants to capitalize on the good name and honor of the Schultheiss Gang. It's a tawdry but not uncommon European business practice applied throughout the continent. When, oh when will will the German public arise, torches ablaze and pitchforks in hand, to put a stop to his heinous practice?
|
Elmer:
I knew there was something amiss!
|
Elmer:
You are right, we must put an end to this madness! But what to do? What to do?... Hmmm... I know, they have acted stupidly, so let's have a beer summit! You know, a Schultheiss Summit!! Yeah, that's it we'll do that! But wait, oh my God, we have to prepare first. I'm going to get started right now. Prost!
|
Josef Woodall:
Avast, we must mount an attack, time is of the essence! But first a stragedy meeting; but where? Oh, I know, let;s meet at "Oliver's Fine Cuisine". Many a great idea was hatched there (I remember one "payday" trip in Class A's to the "combat zone" in Frankfurt to watch a movie just because it had a mushroom cloud on the poster), too bad so many brain cells killed in the process. . . .

ADM REUNION - I know this event keeps getting pushed out for a variety of reasons. Peter Endy has done a great job on the two reunions already behind us. Would really like to look at a ADM Reunion in the near future. None of us are getting any younger and our ranks are shrinking slowly but surely. The ADM'er paid a real and vital part in the successes of the Cold War and it's ultimate end. It was a real special soldier that came to the various ADM fields, let us hold that specialness together - there will never be anyone like us again. . . . .
As a recommendation for a possible ADM Reunion - Branson Mo is centrally located; they have a new regional airport so access by air is easy. The climate is pretty reasonable most of the year and the cost's tend to be less then in other areas. Also there is a variety of activities available that should be of interest to most everyone.
Let me know what you think; I have no problem with getting the ball rolling or assisting.
Jim Cauthron:
I love the idea
|
Micheal Tsotaddle:
Sounds Great to me !!!!
|
Dan Trewartha:
Sounds good, as long I don't have to attend a Micky Gilley concert,
|
Jim Cauthron:
Don;
After enough beers you wound't give a s#*t if it was Mickey Gilley's sister.
|
Peter, Webmaster:
I will be glad to get this going. After all, I have the Roster. Look for something on the web site in a few weeks (I just relocated [again] so I am still getting settled in)

Where is everybody, on vacation or what?
tom novak:
no, just kicking back and enjoying the weather. Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.
|
Peter, Webmaster:
Everyone is waiting for someone else to post something.
|
G. Goudreau:
Jeez, Elmer! After your fantastic contribution of photos and such we're all afraid to post anything. We'll all look like a bunch of pikers!
|
Elmer:
Hey,
What can I say, I figured I'd put the little talent I have to work. I hope to photograph some of Camp Eschborn next, don't know when though!
|
Elmer:
PS - I have a little surprise coming for the Schulthiess gang too! Hmmm...

happy fourth
specially to all the Schultheiss Gang
Francois Fred:
The who? Never heard of 'em. Sounds like a bunch of drunken yayhoos to me.
|
G. Goudreau:
Oh yes, the Schultheiss Gang. I remember those fellows! Some of the finest, handsome, morally upright soldiers ever to claim the 12E MOS. Yes indeed!! Fine, fine men for sure.

Long story short, I found out on of my co workers is a fellow Francios Kaserne alumni. Ken was stationed there from '66 to '69, and served with the 6/40FA. He was on the special weapons team. We shared stories of Lamboystrasse and Kaserne life. I showed him the pictures posted by Elmer, and he was amazed to see the buildings 41 years later.
Larry Dinnell:
Funny, Mike! Small world. I still say Hanau would be a great place for a 2012 reunion. Not easy to organize, but what an opportunty to walk down Lamboy as a group maybe once more!
|
Elmer:
Mike,
That's quite a story! I was surprised that the buildings were still standing myself. I guess their age and historical signifigance & maintenence precluded their distruction. You probably know, the Germans have strict laws, especially in Hessen about preserving historical buildings and grounds. Glad your co-worker got to see them again. I'll bet he has his share of stories from Francios too!
|
Elmer:
Mike,
Tell your co-worker Ken I was in Grafenwhoehr yesterday with my wife and son for my organization's annual Org Day. Graf training area celebrated 100 years of use this past week! I'll bet Ken spent time up there on the ranges. We drove over the tank trail running nearly parallel with highway 299 on the way home. He probably wouldn't recognize much of the base now, except for the water tower and General's quarters. Graf and Vilseck received about 2 Billon Dollars in construction over the last several years. Vilseck has a brand new Hospital and housing. Graf has alot of new stuff too.

Happy Independence Day to all!
Treat this Independence Day that symbolizes and dedicates our Founding Father's fight for freedom from tyranny as your last, because the way things are going in our country it could very well be your last! Our country needs to re-educate itself and get back to the principles of the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and the Constitution of the United States! Simplicity over Stupitidy!

Any one recognize this patch??
Gary Donald:
Volens et potens was the motto of the 4th Engr. Bn. I was assigned their in 1975 after I came back into the Army in 1975. At that time they came under the 4th Inf. Div. This may have been the patch before that time.
|
Gary Donald:
The patch below is Missle Command and was worn between 15 January 1953 - 15 February 1963. There was another patch above which indicated what command (1,2,3,or 4).
|
Rod Allen:
Gary,
you are right about the adm patch...I kept thinking it was on my Korea coat...The 4th MSL Command was my Korea Patch...161 Engineer, Camp Page 96208
